The Latest

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

So the latest emails hitting my inbox today are all about CSR (class size reduction).  Apparently, word on the street is that Sue Palazzo is telling everyone that only the parents at Vista Del Mar care about losing the class size reduction program as part of the current budget cuts.

Wherever does she get her information?  Every parent I know with a K-3 child loves CSR and fully supports it.  Most parents with older students do realize that there is life after 4th grade and their children do fine but that does not stop people from loving 20-1.

The 20-1 program has been extremely popular since it’s introduction and for a former substitute teacher to 1.  not know that and 2. to speak for others is simply mind-boggling.

What is she thinking?

Does she really expect 7,000 parents to show up at the board meetings?  Maybe those parents have already heard that the trustees are out of touch and doing whatever they want.  I personally doubt any of the parents in this district will ever stop fighting for what they think is in the best interest of their children, but it would sure be nice to have at least a trustee or two that had a clue what was going on everyday in our schools.

CUSD Board Meeting

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Monday, April 13 will be a very important board meeting at CUSD.  It will be interesting to see where Trustees decide to cut the money necessary to present a balanced budget to the Orange County Department of Education by the 15th.  Due to their inability to address the situation early enough, they are now under the gun to make immediate cuts.  Their PR machine, the recall committee put out a nasty press release blaming teachers for not taking a pay cut to balance the budget but the negotiations for the 2009/2010 school year haven’t even begun.  The sole responsibility lies with the trustees.

Anyone who cares about education and the children in our community would be wise to attend this meeting.
